Description
2026 250th Anniversary Semiquincentennial Declaration of Independence Quarter
Declaration of Independence
In recognition of the 2026 Semiquincentennial, 250 years of the United States of America, the United States Mint
will issue five new quarters celebrating our Nation. Be among the first to get the third quarter in the 2026 series the
Declaration of Independence quarter featuring the Liberty Bell, an iconic symbol of the country’s founding era that hung
in the Pennsylvania State House Independence Hall when the Declaration of Independence was signed. For
one year only, the U.S. Mint is celebrating the 2026 Semiquincentennial through special coins and medals with design
changes to most of our circulating coins. These coins commemorate American Liberty, reflecting our country’s founding
principles and honoring our Nation’s history.
Obverse Side
The 2026 Declaration of Independence quarter obverse features Thomas Jefferson, author of the Declaration of Independence
and third President of the United States. The inscriptions are E PLURIBUS UNUM, IN GOD WE TRUST, and 1776 – 2026.
Reverse Side
The reverse depicts the Liberty Bell ringing. While it is unclear whether it rang out in July 1776, the Liberty Bell often
rang to draw people near and share an announcement, or a declaration. The Bell’s crack is visible, the fragility of the
Bell echoing the fragility of a young nation at its founding. The inscriptions are THE DECLARATION OF INDEPENDENCE,
QUARTER DOLLAR, LIBERTY, and UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.
